Thank You!

Oregon Arts Commission and The Ford Family Foundation

I am a proud recipient of the Career Opportunity Grant from the Oregon Arts Commission! See the Press-Release here.

I applied for the grant after I was invited to be a part of Personal Structures 2024, a 7-month exhibition in Venice by the European Cultural Center (ECC). Because this is in conjunction with La Biennale di Venezia from April 20th - Nov. 24th, 2024, the most focused art enthusiasts from the world will come to Venice as an art destination.

Exhibiting in Personal Structures will give me exposure to international communities of art curators, writers, consultants, and collectors. Over 570,000 visitors attended the 2022 exhibition. My work will be alongside 180 internationally-renowned and emerging artists with a full range of mediums. The exhibition will be accompanied by both a hard-bound and a soft-bound catalog.

I invite you to click on the image below and watch a short video by the ECC of Personal Structures. And scroll down to see more about the ECC.

With this news, my current exhibition, "The Sea & Shore"
inspired by my Venice trip has been extended. See Below for details.

THE SEA & SHORE

EXTENDED WEEK—DON'T MISS OUT!

With this news, Calloway Fine Art and Consulting has decided to extend my exhibition for a week!  So, please take a look at my Venice inspired exhibition. The reason I went to Venice last year was to meet with the European Cultural Center and see the 2022 exhibition. I was blown away! As you can see in the video. I did most of these paintings in my France studio and brought them back for this exhibition. You can read my blog about my Venice experience here.

WHO IS THE ECC AND PERSONAL STRUCTURES

The European Cultural Centre is a cultural organization founded in 2002. It has organized projects worldwide to create cultural exchange and inspiring dialogues, focusing on the philosophical concepts of Time, Space, and Existence. Among their main activities are the planning and management of cultural projects, the creation of international art and architecture exhibitions, symposia, publications, videos, educational programs and several other initiatives.

The ECC Italy is a well-established branch of the larger European Cultural Centre, with its base in Venice. They aim to create dynamic exhibition spaces that show the interchanging of ideas from different cultures. Personal Structures exhibition alternate each year with the architecture exhibition Time Space Existence. See more on the ECC Italy Website here.

THE VENUES

This 7-month exhibition takes place in two historic buildings, the Palazzo Bembo and the Palazzo Mora, in the heart of Venice. The outdoor spaces include two Marinaressa Gardens which are placed near the San Marco square and between the main venues of La Biennale di Venezia. Each location has its own particular atmosphere and curatorial guidelines.

Throughout the exhibition, the European Cultural Centre will host multiple events including talks, performances, and workshops generating more exposure and conversations about contemporary art. Plus the ECC is very active on social media involving conversations and interviews with the artists.

My Preliminary Proposal

Once I was invited to apply, I developed a preliminary proposal for their review. I proposed a large-scale painting as a narrative expression, bringing together multiple canvases and developing my own dialogue of the harmony between our differences. I will start the development once the theme of the exhibition has been decided upon.

I like painting on multiple canvases in which I can change the order of them during the process. I originally chose to work on different size canvases for diptychs during the “Women’s March” era in 2017. I realized then it didn’t make sense to have equal size canvases, as nothing is equal in this world. Even my thoughts are not equal. With the racial and political divide, I took it further working with more than two canvases. Now I want to take it even further.
